The Sculpture School is the only establishment in the UK dedicated to teaching contemporary realist sculpture. Using a highly student centred and fresh approach, the diverse range of sculpting classes are designed to suit everyone whether a beginner, experienced or a professional. All sculpture courses teach proven techniques developed by Andrew Sinclair including the school’s unique approach to clay application. At the end of the workshop students leave with their clay sculpture.

“The ethos is one of excellence: mastering traditional and contemporary sculpture skills, understanding anatomy, learning how to ‘see’ shape, and most of all, dynamic and energy curves.” says Andrew Sinclair

The unique teaching method provides a solid grounding in sculpture design with the strong emphasis on anatomy is vital for students aiming to become professional sculptors. The school has a 90% return rate as well as attracting students from all around the world, which has been a huge boost to local businesses.

Planned courses for the remainder of 2018 are as follows:

  • 16th November to 18th November Moulding and Casting Workshop with Tutor Rich Balman.
  • 20th November to 23rd November Animal Sculpture Workshop.
  • 4th December to 7th December Level 1 Figurative Sculpture Workshop.

The 2019 schedule will be released in November.

About Andrew Sinclair:

Andrew Sinclair MRBS is recognised as a master of world-class figurative sculpture.

Earlier this year Andrew Sinclair unveiled the first global sculpture to celebrate the life and work of David Bowie. Andrew is currently working on a monument for the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment to be situated in the heart of Halifax, home of the Regiment for over 200 years. It is due to be unveiled in early 2019.

Andrew Sinclair MRBS is recognised as a master of world-class figurative sculpture.

His impressive catalogue of work graces distinguished historical properties and public places such as the Royal Box at Ascot, Epsom Racecourse, and Crosby Hall (Sir Thomas Moore’s old palace) in London. Working to commission during his 25-year professional career, Andrew’s sculptures are in collections across the globe. The late poet and publisher Felix Denis was his patron for many years, significantly he chose Andrew to sculpt his bronze memorial sculptures which are now situated in The heart of England Forest and at Felixs Garden of Heroes and Villans near Stratford Upon Avon.

Andrew also creates bespoke pieces such as ‘The Three Sisters‘ he sculpted as a surprise 40th birthday gift for their father. Another commission saw Andrew create a life-size sculpture of the German rap artist Sido for a music video, which has had more the 44.6 million views on YouTube.

Andrew’s passion is figurative sculpture and he has singularly changed the world of sculpture through his inventions: ‘The Sinclair Methodology‘ for creating sculptures and ‘Plastishim‘- a product used in mould-making, adopted by major foundries and the film industry as the method of choice.

His knowledge, experience, and unique approach are inspirational. Passionate about educating future professional sculptors, Andrew is the lead teacher at the Sculpture School in Devon. He is renowned as a true authority on sculpture, is an accomplished speaker and teacher. His book, The Art of Earth and Fire, has been called the definitive guide to figurative sculpture practice.

Diane Coates

Diane’s fascination with dynamic form, anatomical detail and sensuous line is the foundation of her work. Already an established painter and pastel artist, her career in sculpture began following her BA (Fine Art) degree in 2006. Her highly collectible bronze sculptures of sensual female nudes are in private collections throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Working at Andrew Sinclair’s commercial sculpture studio was the catalyst to her discovering how sculpture really should be created. A fervent belief that figurative art is wholly neglected in formal art education Diane is passionate about teaching excellence in sculpture skills and craftsmanship. This passion to change sculpture education led Diane, along with sculptor Andrew Sinclair ARBS, to become co-founders of The Sculpture School.
