Hastings-based freelancer, Loksan Harley, has been shortlisted for the Freelancer of the Year Award at the UK’s biggest freelancer awards, the IPSE Freelancer of the Year Awards.

Loksan, an author and expert on astronomy, impressed the judges with his achievements and social impact.

Commenting on the shortlisting, Chief Executive at at IPSE, Chris Bryce said:

“Freelancing allows people to be innovative, following their dreams to start businesses that could grow into a great success that benefits us all. Loksan hugely impressed us against a very strong field with his work to improve the lives of people all over the world, which shows the positive impact that freelancers have.”

The IPSE Freelancer of the Year Awards, now in their sixth year, recognise and celebrate the innovation and excellence of freelancers across the UK. Applicants are judged on a range of criteria including the strength of their portfolio, their passion and commitment to freelancing, business acumen, creativity and the distinctiveness of their work.

The number of freelancers in the UK has risen rapidly over the last ten years with the self-employed now adding £275bn to the economy.

About Loksan Harley

Loksan Harley is an independent policy analyst, project manager and researcher. He has been a freelancer for over five years, during which time he has been based in Burkina Faso, China, India and the UK; and worked remotely and travelled for business to many other countries.

Loksan has extensive experience in research, programme management and technical assistance working with governments, international organisations and NGOs worldwide.

Loksan works most extensively with the United Nations (UN). On behalf of the UN, he has advised the European Commission on migration-related international development programmes, and advised African governments on human trafficking and migrant smuggling policies. He has also provided strategic advice to NGOs like Save the Children and Catholic Relief Services. Loksan holds an MSc (Public Policy) from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), and a BA (Economics) from McGill University.
