Starting today, tourists and Cariocas will be able to live a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Rio’s largest cultural complex: the City of Arts. It is the Brazilian Music Experience, which will take the public traveling through the 97,000-square-meter complex.
The building opened in 2013, is built in the heart of Barra da Tijuca, in Rio’s West side, and features a varied programming with music, theater, dance, plastic arts, fairs and other Brazilian artistic manifestations.
The tour, which takes place on Thursdays, is meant to be more than a simple guided tour. The program, which lasts three hours and costs $ 190 Reais, includes a tour of the Great Hall, the Chamber Theater, the backstage of the theaters and a model of Rio de Janeiro made with fitting pieces. The work was built to honor the host city of the 2016 Olympic Games. This first stage ends with a cocktail party. In the menu, Brazilian-style drinks and appetizers.
Then, visitors participate in a Brazilian music workshop. It is time to learn to sing, in a fun way, songs that have been hits abroad such as “Garota de Ipanema – Girl from Ipanema” (Antonio Carlos Jobim & Vinícius de Moraes) and “Aquarela do Brasil – Watercolor of Brazil” (Ary Barroso). Visitors can also choose to have a percussion class and will have the feeling of playing Samba with typically Brazilian instruments such as the pandeiro and the tamborim.
