Last Vegas – ‘there’s life in the old dog yet’ – never more true than in this film featuring 4 ‘more mature’ (let’s not say ‘older’) childhood friends meeting up in Vegas for a wedding of one of their number, Michael Douglas – who seemed to be playing Michael Douglas, but he does it so well!
Some of it was a bit corny and even predictable (i.e. grumpy widower (Robert De Niro) cheers up, loving husband played by Kevin Kline with a very dashing hat, given permission by his wife to ‘play away’ doesn’t but does go home rejuvenated, Morgan Freeman playing a ‘mild’ stroke victim, decides life is worth living to the full and persuades caring son to see his point of view) but as more mature people, we found much of the sentiments and dialogue very true and thought-provoking.
Mary Steenburgen looks wonderful and sings beautifully, so perhaps we could overlook her habit of coming out with wise truisms at every opportunity and falling in love so quickly with …………. well see the film, no spoilers here!
With a cast like this, how could a film be anything but enjoyable and it lives up to that expectation – another star of the film is Las Vegas itself, what a fabulous overview for all age groups – and good to see real performers in Vegas on the big screen
Overall a smile worthy and feel-good experience we highly recommend, it was good to hear all age groups around us laughing at the same things!
