Dinner in the Sky debuts south of Lima

Lima’s already thriving culinary scene has been taken to new heights – quite literally – with the chance to enjoy a dining experience 45 metres above ground.

Dinner in the Sky Peru opened to the public in late January, offering lunch or dinner on an open-air elevated platform a little way south of the city, with views over the Peruvian sea and the archaeological site of Pachacamac.

Diners can enjoy a three-course Peruvian meal with matching wines at either lunch or dinner, with the evening seating timed for diners to enjoy panoramic views of sunset over the sea. Up to 22 guests can be accommodated at the table and of course, all will be firmly strapped in to ensure their safety.

 

Seven Peruvian hotels among the best in South America and the world

Belmond Palacio Nazarenas, the luxury hideaway in Cusco, secured number eight on the prestigious list of ‘25 Best Hotels in the World’  Travellers Choice 2019 rankings.

Seven of Peru’s hotels were also recognised as being amongst the ‘25 Best Hotels in South America’ with Belmond Palacio Nazarenas securing the number one spot.

Tambo del Inka Luxury Collection reached number four, Explora Sacred Valley number 10, Belmond Miraflores Park number twelve, Belmond Hotel Monasterio number 14, Aranwa Cusco Boutique number 15 and Westin Lima number 16.

LATAM Airlines Peru debuts first direct flights between Lima and the southern city of Ilo

To celebrate 20 years of business, LATAM Airlines Peru has announced the twentieth city in which it will operate. As of 20th March 2019, LATAM Airlines is the only airline to arrive directly from Lima to the port city of Ilo in the far south of Peru.

Three weekly flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

It is estimated that the new route will be used by around 35,000 passengers in 2019, improving domestic connectivity within Peru and continuing to encourage economic growth.

General manager of LATAM Airlines Peru, Manuel van Oordt, added,

‘It’s been 20 years since we started this great dream with LATAM Airlines Peru. With the new direct flight to Ilo, the twentieth city in Peru where we are going to operate, we celebrate that we can continue to contribute to the dreams reaching their destination.’

 

Explora launches new ways to explore Peru on two wheels

Touring by bicycle is a healthy, adventurous and sustainable way to become acquainted with Peru.

Adventure travel company Explora has launched new Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley cycling programs for guests staying in the Explora Valle Sagrado property in partnership with cycling specialist and tour operator Trek Travel.

Four new 2019 programs have been released, each of which take six days and cover 75 miles. Seasoned cycling guides will accompany guests on rides alongside the Urubamba River and into the Sacred Valley to take in panoramic views of Cusco. A full exploration of Machu Picchu will also see guests lay their bikes down for the day to venture on foot.

The programmes include transfers to and from the airport, accommodation, three daily meals plus an open bar, daily guided explorations, bike riding gear, a full day guided exploration of Machu Picchu and tickets to nature reserves and archaeological sites.

 

Peruvian textiles exhibition to open in London

Much loved by visitors and souvenir-hunters for their vibrant colours and designs, Peruvian textiles are a crucial part of the country’s culture and are now the focus of an exhibition at London’s Fashion and Textile Museum that opens in late spring.

Weavers of the Clouds: Textile Arts of Peru looks at the influence of Peruvian textiles on worldwide fashion design. It explores the processes and practices of both historic and contemporary Peruvian costume via garments, textiles, photographs, tools, illustrations and paintings dating from pre-Hispanic to the present day.

Works on display include designs by Meche Correa and Chiara Macchievello, photographs by Martin Chambi, Mariano Vivanco and Toni Frissell, never-before-seen costume illustrations by Francisco Gamarra and paintings and illustrations by Pancho Fierro and Elena Izcue.

Weavers of the Clouds: Textile Arts of Peru runs from 21st June – 8th September 2019.
